Back on track

Life happened, what else can you say...

Here are the first attempts at some elevated terrain, early WIPs at this stage but you can imagine how they will look. A windmill and two drilling rigs on the way.

And some barricades/rubble Ive thrown together for the shanty town.

Water Silos

Found a bit tube that just begged to be used for terrain, so here's two water silos for the shanty town inhabitants.

I saw the sign!

Well, couldn't resist. Shame on me. Anyway, finished some signs as well as some more barricades to fill up the table and make it more believable that someone actually lives there. Or at least used to...

Printed some nice District 9 posters I found online, these will fit really good as I guess Ill mostly be fighting my friends Crustys on the table. Fry some prawns!

Shanty Town progress

Finished most of the buildings I had done for the Shanty Town and thought Id share the process. Kept a fairly small palette and went for a heavy on rusty/worn look on these as well.

Usually start of with a red brown for the base layer. The most worn brush possible is perfekt here, try to staple the paint.

Add some orange on top, but be careful not get too much. Again a dead brush is your best friend here.

Finish it up with a heavy dry brush of silver, old faithfull Boltgun Metal in my case.

I prefer to add some more detailing once the painting is done. Foliage for bushes, turfs and stones to hold the roof in place are perfect for this.

Finished the barricades and a few houses.

Finished the first few houses and its actually starting to look like a little settlement. Added minor details to the houses as well, like stones to hold down the roof and some vegetation.

Quick and easy to make barricades for the shanty town. Been using the same basic colors and tehniques as for the houses.

First house done

More or less done with the first house, just need to add some minor details. Wanted to get a worn and weathered feeling to the houses so Ive been using maily brown and rusty colors.

In a terrain making frenzy I did 12 more houses in various sizes as well as some barricades to seal of areas. Been using the same method and incorporated some left over electronics I got from a friend.

Birth of a 15mm table.

After getting talked into trying 15mm Sci Fi and enjoying the Gruntz rules a lot. It was an easy decision to start working on a table. The original idea was to go for a City board with a Transmetropolitan/Judge Dredd flavor to it.
But being a bit low on cash at the moment I decided to go for a cheaper and easier table instead, more of a shanty/post apocalyptic town. That would be able to incorporate into the city later on.

For the core of the building I have used a think easy to cut plastic board, foam board would work just as well or whatever you might have around.

Once the structure of the buildings were done I covered them with sheets of corrugated card, commonly used for scrapbooking. To get a shanty town feeling to them.

Some of my Khurasan IFL miniatures for size.
